Author, Dawn Desjardins
Dawn is originally from Upstate New
York, and currently resides in a quaint suburb of Chicago, Illinois. She has always enjoyed dabbling in the creative and expressive arts, but her interest took on new meaning when she was
living in her first apartment at the age of 19 in Omaha, Nebraska. “I was
far from home and drawing filled a gap ~ it became a friend. In taking a drawing class, I realized the difference
and delight of using a 6B pencil verses a #2!” Dawn creates books that
are hopeful, fun, and thought provoking. Her first picture book, The Autumn Marathon, is a personification
of leaves; she relates their efforts to a day of humanity. Dawn's second book, "Leopold," is unique. It
is the only picture book out there that explains and celebrates February 29th! Her favorite page in
the book reads, "Leaping Lizards Leopold...You're a full-grown four-year-old!" Dawn believes that deep down there is an artist and/or speaker in all of us. “The
need for creating and the need to express ourselves is something we all innately possess. It is all around us, just
look around you!” She encourages all to, “Be curious and try something new. Just see what happens!
…Oh, and do get yourself a 6B pencil."
